Founded in February 2018, Lifomics branched out from its sister company, Sci Spec, the exclusive distributor in Thailand of the world-renowned chromatography, life science mass spectrometry and state-of-the-art analytical devices of Thermo Fisher Scientific since 2007.
The emerging trend of the “Omics” era has brought molecular biology and advanced biotechnology to the forefront, with awareness spreading widely throughout academic, research and service institutions.

Lifomics focuses specifically on, but is not limited to, genomic applications to serve Thailand’s expert community. As Mesa Lab (Colorado, USA) exclusive distributor since 2015, Lifomics launched and partnered on the first MassARRAY, the cutting-edge genomic analysis platform, with one of the country’s prestigious medical schools, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, in precision medicine in oncology (cancers).

MassARRAY in the SARS-CoV-2 response
Most recently, during the world pandemic of COVID-19, the MassARRAY panel was trusted and adopted by an advanced genomic lab, the Center of Medical Genomics, affiliated with Ramathibodi Medical School Hospital, which successfully developed it into a surveillance and tracing panel for dreaded SARS-CoV-2 variants.
Its unique multiplexing functionality tracks not only virus positivity but also detects the UK, South Africa, Brazil and India variants in a single run.

Technology in Genomics Service
Serving unmet needs and resolving pain points in the country’s agricultural genomics (plants and animals), the company engages a top key opinion leader at the National Omics Center, affiliated with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), to adopt high-throughput MassARRAY technology in genomic services for academic institutions and agricultural businesses.
The most highlighted translational service is the conservation of endangered wildlife: the DNA barcoding of Thailand’s forest tigers project.

Pathogen panel on MassARRAY
Since Thailand is one of the importing countries of meat products, food safety is considered a top priority. The company invests in and builds collaboration with biotech experts on R&D to pilot the design of a “pathogen panel” running on the MassARRAY platform.
It is a de novo alternative screening test for multi-bacterial strain contamination without traditional microbiological culture.

Streamlining the genomics solution
Streamlining the genomics solution is essential, hence Lifomics commits to bridging all gaps. In 2017, the exclusive distributor agreement was signed with LGC group, the distinguished UK National Measurement Laboratory for over 100 years, later privatised in 1996.
Among the most significant contributions to Thai society are the installation of the high-throughput IntelliQube, the world’s quick and flexible, fully automated, high-throughput multiplexing qPCR system, and the first oligonucleotide synthesizer, the MerMade, at BIOTEC and the National Omics Center.

Expanded Genomics Solutions
LGC group was later integrated with Lucigen, the US-based company whose core specialities are enzyme evolution, protein expression, cloning, competent cells, next-generation sequencing and molecular diagnostics. The global synergistic integration became a total genomics solution entitled “Biosearch Technologies”.
